NOT OBLIGATORY TO BELIEVE IN AN EX CATHEDRA DOGMA SAYS PARISH PRIEST AT BASILICA OF SANTA MARIA IN TRASTEVERE ROME

It is not obligatory to believe in an ex cathedra dogma said Father Matteo Zuppi, the Parish Priest of the Basilica Santa Maria in Trastevere,Rom. He indicated that the Mass offered by His Eminence Cardinal Bernard Law was not a sacrilege. The Italian priest was speaking with me on Feb13, 2010 at the Basilica of Santa Maria in Trastevere.

Father Matteo Zuppi said even if a person does not believe in an ex cathedra dogma like extra ecclesiam nulla salus, he can still receive the Eucharist.

There was no particular mention of Cardinal Bernard Law, Archpriest, St. Mary Majors, Rome. Two priests at St. Mary Majors confirmed that it was obligatory for all Catholics to believe an ex cathedra dogma otherwise it would be a sacrilege with reference to the Eucharist. Fr. Silvistrini Emilio and Fr. Magyar Cesky O.P, priests at the basilica, have said that a Catholic who denies an ex cathedra dogma commits a sacrilege. Fr.Magyar hears Confession regularly at the basilica, in a confessional which mention his name and the languages he speaks.

Some six years back at Santa Maria in Trastevere I had spoken to Fr.Matteo Zuppi and he had similar views. I also had informed him about his errors.

Fr.Matto Zuppi still gives the Eucharist at Holy Mass to dissident Andrea Riccardi who denies the dogma along with members of the San Egidio community

On Sept.22, 2009 Bishop Vincenzo Paglia, along with Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco, President of the Italian Catholic Bishops Conference announced that Jews do not have to convert. It was said that the Revised Good Friday Prayer for the Conversion of the Jews, was not for their conversion in the present times. This is contrary to the Bible especially the Gospel of John. It is contrary to ecumenism with all Christians who believe Jesus said Jews need to convert.

It is contrary to the ex cathedra dogma extra ecclesiam nulla salus rejected by Fr.Matteo Zuppi, Andrea Riccardi and Bishop Vincenzo Paglia, the bishop of Terni-Narni-Amelia, Italy.

On Feb. 13 morning, the same day I met Fr.Matteo Zuppi, Metropolitan Galaktion, of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church in Rome said it was obligatory for all Orthodox Christians to believe in the ex cathedra dogma extra ecclesiam nulla salus. I had met him at the Basilica of San Clemente, Rome a Catholic Church near the Coliseum, where the Orthodox community are allowed to perform their religious services.

Here is the ex cathedra dogma extra ecclesiam nulla salus affirmed by the Orthodox Churches and the Roman Catholic Church – it is an ecumenical subject Fr.Matteo Zuppi, San Egidio, Bishop Paglia and Cardinal Bernard Law will not endorse.

• “There is but one universal Church of the faithful, outside which no one at all is saved.” (Pope Innocent III, Fourth Lateran Council, 1215.)

• “We declare, say, define, and pronounce that it is absolutely necessary for the salvation of every human creature to be subject to the Roman Pontiff.” (Pope Boniface VIII, the Bull Unam Sanctam, 1302.)

• “The most Holy Roman Church firmly believes, professes and preaches that none of those existing outside the Catholic Church, not only pagans, but also Jews and heretics and schismatics, can have a share in life eternal; but that they will go into the eternal fire which was prepared for the devil and his angels, unless before death they are joined with Her; and that so important is the unity of this ecclesiastical body that only those remaining within this unity can profit by the sacraments of the Church unto salvation, and they alone can receive an eternal recompense for their fasts, their almsgivings, their other works of Christian piety and the duties of a Christian soldier. No one, let his almsgiving be as great as it may, no one, even if he pour out his blood for the Name of Christ, can be saved, unless he remain within the bosom and the unity of the Catholic Church.” (Pope Eugene IV, the Bull Cantate Domino, 1441.) – from the website Catholicism.org and “No Salvation outside the Church”: Link List, the Three Dogmatic Statements Regarding EENS)

A Sri Lanka priest Fr.Tissa Balasurya OMI was excommunicated by Pope John Paul  II for denying the ex cathedra dogma of the Immaculate Conception of Our Lady.

It may be mentioned that there is no text in Vatican Council II which contradicts the ex cathedra dogma extra ecclesiam nulla salus.Vatican Council II is interpreted as being in accord with the dogma; an infallible teaching. However the Jewish Christian Centre for Learning, Boston College claimed that the Catholic Church rejected the ‘rigorist interpretation’ of this ex cathedra teaching. This claim was repeated often by the Jewish Left media in Boston. There was no correction by Cardinal Bernard Law.

It was claimed that Vatican Council II states those non Catholics who are in invincible ignorance or have the baptism of desire or a good conscience do not de facto have to enter the Catholic Church for salvation; to avoid Hell.Yet nowhere in Vatican Council II is this claim made. There is no text to corroborate this new doctrine. Instead we have interpretations of Vatican Council II, which affirm the dogma extra ecclesiam nulla salus.

It was also indicated falsely that we could judge who specifically has a genuine baptism of desire, is in invincible ignorance or, will be judged by Jesus as having a good conscience. There was no clarification by Archbishop Bernard Law.According to Canon Law a cardinal in public mortal sin is to not celebrate Holy Mass without first going for Confession and removing the scandal. The cardinal’s secretary Msgr. Paul B. McInerny has been sent posts from this blog. These posts have also been sent to the cardinal via the religious community working at the basilica. Personal enquiries were made at the sacristy .  ( He can be contacted in Rome at Tel: (+39) 06.698.86800 (+39) 06.698.86800 , fax (+39) 06.698.86817 E-mail: sagrestiasmm@org.va ) He needs to issue a clarification and stop the sacrilege and scandal.
Yet he continues to  celebrate Mass at the basilica. The Mass is a sacrilege. It is the repeated desecration of the Eucharist. A person in a mortal sin of faith is not to celebrate Holy Mass. Even though Jesus is present in the Eucharist it is a scandal and sin in public.
